The Source: All Things Antique by Claire Zinnecker Design

by Claire Zinnecker

We’re back with the second feature of our new series, The Source by Claire Zinnecker Design. If there’s one thing you should know about us at CZD, it’s that we’ll choose a collected, antique piece over something new any day. Living in Texas makes this love even sweeter. We’re spoiled with world-famous events like the Round Top Antiques Fair, not to mention the countless small towns filled with historic charm and shops brimming with rare, one-of-a-kind finds.

It’s the perfect mix: a rich cultural history, the thrill of uncovering hidden gems and the inspiring atmosphere of each stop along the way. Together, these elements make treasure hunting across Texas a truly exceptional experience. For us, weaving those collected pieces into our clients’ homes is not only special, it's one of our very favorite parts of the design process.

We love incorporating antiques into our clients’ homes because they add layers of depth and meaning that new pieces simply can’t replicate. Every antique carries a history, whether it’s the patina of aged brass, the worn edge of a farmhouse table, or the hand-carved detail of a chair that’s been passed down for generations. These pieces bring warmth, character, and a sense of story to a space, making a home feel truly lived-in and personal. Beyond their beauty, antiques have a way of grounding even the most modern interiors, creating a balance that feels timeless and authentic.

One of the highlights of our year is attending the Round Top Antiques Fair, a world-renowned event right here in Texas. Claire has been making the trip for decades, and it’s become more than just a sourcing trip, it’s a tradition. She spends days reconnecting with long-time vendors, catching up with familiar faces, and discovering new treasures to bring back to our clients. Round Top is an experience in itself, and we always leave inspired by the history, craftsmanship, and sheer variety of pieces on display. If you’ve never been, we can’t recommend it enough. This ultimate field guide curated by Claire and interior stylist Leah Ashley is the perfect source for all things Round Top, and will help steer you in the right direction depending on what you’re looking for!

If Texas didn't make it on your travel list this year, don’t worry. We’re sharing a handpicked selection of our favorite antique finds so you can bring a little Round Top magic into your own home.

Quick disclaimer: All of the items we’ve shared above are from independent sellers on Etsy. We always recommend reading reviews and reaching out to the seller with any questions before purchasing, as occasional scams are possible on the platform.

3 tips to consider:

Look for quality craftsmanship
Antique pieces were often built to last, so pay attention to the details: solid wood construction, dovetail joints, hand-carved accents. These are signs of durability and artistry that will stand the test of time.

Embrace imperfections
Scratches, worn edges, or a weathered finish are part of what makes antiques special. These imperfections tell the story of a piece’s past and add authentic charm to your home.

Think about function and scale
It’s easy to fall in love with a beautiful piece, but make sure it works for your space. Consider the dimensions, how you’ll use it day-to-day, and whether it complements the flow of your home.

We hope this peek into our love of antiques and our favorite treasure-hunting traditions like Round Top inspires you to bring a few storied pieces into your own home. Whether you’re drawn to timeworn patina, unique character, or the thrill of the hunt, antiques have a way of making a space feel layered, soulful, and truly your own.
